Birthdate: | Jun 15 |
Location: | Los Angeles, California, United States |
Name: Douglas "Doogie" Howser, M.D.
D.O.B.: 21 September 1973
Parents: Dr. David and Katherine Howser
Siblings: None
Accomplishments:
He's the whiz-kid who scored perfect on the S.A.T at age 6, breezed through high school in 9 weeks (he was 8), graduated Princeton at age 10, finished med-school, then passed his boards at 14, and at 16, holds a job as a second year resident at Eastman Medical Center. A great doctor, who knows his stuff, but has a kind heart that manages to balance the scales - he's the one performing surgery on the dog's broken hip or admitting the homeless people despite their lack of ability to pay or keeping families together.
As a teenager, in some aspects he is very mature - probably has to do with all of that grown-up responsibility as a doctor in a major hospital - but in others, he's just like any other teen, which leaves him, and his parents, very torn about how to handle certain situations. He's a kid living and working already in a grown-up's world and in that world he wants to be treated like an adult, but at the same time, he's just a kid, and there are times when he wants to just be a kid. The two sides of his life don't always blend well.
His friends do a lot to keep him grounded and thinking. They cause their share of grief too, but they always seem to work things out, whether it's the fourteenth time he and Wanda have broken up or the two-thousdanth fight he and Vinnie have had over any number of things. Sometimes his friends are better friends to him than he is to them - so the genius learns just as much from his 'normal' friends as they do from him.
It's tough being a professional physician with a 1am curfew... and being on-call... and having to decide between friends and work - or friends and family...
Oh - and his room is just as messy as any other teenager.
